Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada’s Night of Wonders 2018

Last week, the Lazy Gourmet was involved in a very special event with the Children’s Wish Foundation. Once again, we took part in their annual Night of Wonders Gala and this year was more meaningful because our General Manager Kevin Mazzone was a co-chair and oversaw the planning of the entire evening. In addition, our catering team provided a 3 course dinner, with Asian spiced short rib as the main attraction. Drinks for the evening included wines by Liquidity Wines and custom cocktails from the Liberty Distillery.

We were pleased to see an incredible turnout of 350 guests who attended the gala at the London Aviation Centre. The evening was a great success, raising a record-setting $550,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation to grant wishes for children in BC and the Yukon. Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. For more than 30 years, Children’s Wish has granted wishes to more than 25,000 children and their families.

Money raised at the gala will allow over 55 local children and families to see their wishes come true this year.

Perfectly Suited at Indochino

Last week we held a special wedding partnership event with Indochino to showcase their products for “nearlywed” couples. Indochino is based in Vancouver and offers custom suits and apparel for men at an affordable price. We were excited to partner with them to host the event at their store in Yaletown for wedding planners and couples. We catered the event with passed appetizers, including warm polenta cube, tuna poke cones, mini Yorkshire puddings and brie and roasted apple grilled cheese sandwiches. As well, we set up a live bar installation with a fun interactive component, and a full dessert table with a selection of custom cakes. Matthew and the Night of Wonders Gala

The Night of Wonders Gala is coming up on March 8th! Our General Manager Kevin Mazzone is proud to be the gala co-chair this year, and we will be catering a 3 course dinner and sponsoring the event.

Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest and only all-Canadian wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. For more than 30 years, Children’s Wish has worked tirelessly to grant heartfelt wishes to nearly 25,000 children and their families – that’s three wishes each and every day, all year long!

The annual Night of Wonders gala is the premier event of Children’s Wish, BC & Yukon Chapter, bringing together 350 of Vancouver’s business and cultural luminaries to help grant wishes for dozens of seriously ill children. Night of Wonders encapsulates the essence of wishes – creating joy, awe, and wonder.

The gala, and the wonderful work of the Children’s Wish Foundation have been featured in this article by the Daily Hive. Matthew Boroditsky was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and was selected to receive a wish. Rather than choosing a gift or experience for himself, Matthew chose a “giving wish” – using his wish for the benefit of others. Read the article for the incredible story of how Matthew turned his circumstances around and impacted the lives of many in Guatemala.

Matthew’s story will be shared at this year’s Night of Wonders Gala – expected to be the biggest yet. The organization plans to grant up to 50 wishes for BC and Yukon children this year with proceeds from the event. Staff Spotlight: Chef Jenny Hui

Our executive chef Jenny Hui has been with the company for more than 18 years. She is the backbone of our kitchen and plans and executes menus big and small. With a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and a Diploma in Food Service Management and Red Seal, Jenny loves testing and creating new menu items. She manages over 30 kitchen staff, and supervises event chefs to produce food for 10 to 15,000 guests. She also oversees The Lazy Gourmet’s Food Sustainability program. Though Chef Jenny is normally behind the scenes, we are excited to share this glimpse of her and her team in-action in this recent video taken at The Lazy Gourmet headquarters.

Lunar New Year Dinner at Leisure Centre

Lunar New Year is always one of our favourite times of the year as Chef Jenny creates a stunning seasonal menu. This week, we hosted a very special special collaborative dinner with Leisure Center last night to celebrate Lunar New Year and introduce our 2018 menu. We gave their bar space a modern Asian feel, with help from Elizabeth Stanley Event Design. Guests dined on dumplings, short ribs, fried trout, shredded duck and mushroom noodles and a selection of house made fruit desserts.
